How formulas work

Formulas calculate values from other fields — including across relations to other tables.

Formulas let you calculate values from other fields — including across relations to other tables.

Basic operators: + - * / %, comparisons (>, <, =, and so on), logical AND / OR.

Main functions

  • SUM(), AVG(), MIN(), MAX(), COUNT() — aggregations, including over related records (SUM(expenses.amount)).
  • IF(condition, value_if_true, value_if_false) — conditional logic.
  • ROUND(), ABS() — rounding and absolute value.

Example

On a renovation estimate, a “Remaining” field can be budget - SUM(expenses.amount): budget minus the sum of all expenses linked to that project. As soon as you add a new expense row, Remaining recalculates automatically.

If a formula is wrong

If a formula is set up incorrectly (for example division by zero or a circular reference to itself), the field shows an error instead of a value — so you notice the problem immediately instead of getting a silent wrong result.

Tip: before you delete a field that a formula depends on, Voyanty warns you and lists the formulas that use it — so you do not break calculations by accident.
